...while identical to other webisodes in length. A New Media show, sometime referred to mistakenly as a web series, Beverlywood is both comedy and drama. Each of these short, two-minute video segments is part of a serial dramatic structure, but with an eccentric comedic tone. Beverlywood webisodes are free, unlike some online shows that charge per download.

A wide variety of webisodes are available throughout the internet. Content publishers have created all sorts of script based shows, reality and impov based shows, and even live gameshows. There are cartoons, and animated videos created in flash. Some publisher sare the television networks themselves. There is also plenty of subject matter, ranging from family friendly to racy content only allowed online. The one thing all webisodes, or New Media episodes have in common, is their length. Today, it is typically ninety seconds fo five minutes at the most. This is determined by a combination of audience attention span, video codec type and file size, and the subject matter itself. Just like all those factors, it’s as likely to change many times in the future.

Contests are also popular on the web, and webisodes are no exception. In fact, most competitions for short-form online content will judge an individual webisode itself, rather than a full season. This is a great illustration of the importance of the individual video file in the online world these days. However, as New Media continues to evolve, and webshows become more popular, this standard will change as well.
