Online shows vs TV
Beverlywood is one of the most ambitious online shows out there... It’s a show with a cast, story, and production scope of a network or cable TV series. Each episode has the familiar hallmarks of television, like a ‘catch up’ trailer, multiple scenes, and a beginning, middle, and end. This is unlike other online shows like ‘lonelygrl15’, defined as ‘web series’ and resembling live video rather than film. The difference is in the production schedule. Typical online shows are written, and shot, one episode at a time. Beverlywood’s entire first season was written before the first episode was shot. Then, the entire season was shot before the first episode was released. A comedy with the plot structure of a drama, Beverlywood’s genre is defined as ‘dramedy’. Other examples are TV shows like ‘The Office’ and ‘My Name is Earl’. The story, involving a game with sixteen contestants borrows from successful reality series like ‘Survivor’, ‘Big Brother’, and ‘The Amazing Race’. This is a first amongst online shows designed for the web, which typically have a simpler premise and smaller cast. Most of those shows can be found on youtube. While Beverlywood’s trailers may be found there as well, bwseries.com and bwspace.com form Beverlywood’s internet territory. Beverlywood’s websites were designed for any web surfer with any browser, be it firefox, safari, or internet explorer, to view and download its content fast and clean. Bwseries.com hosts the show, and includes an online forum, info about the show and cast, links, episodes which fans can email, and much more. Bwspace.com is a dedicated online community for Beverlywood fans, similar to myspace and facebook, where they can interact with Beverlywood’s cast. This is also unlike other online shows. |
